Parents -- If your child is struggling, DO NOT WAIT any longer to determine why!   Nearly 40 years of reading research, particularly over the last 20 years, has confirmed that students who struggle will have a harder time catching up unless the instruction targets specific underlying developmental components.

Most phonics and literacy curricula and workbooks which are on the market and used by home schoolers -- including high-quality programs as well as those claiming to help struggling learners -- start by teaching letter sounds. They omit and assume that the child has acquired the skills of "phonological processing" and "phonemic awareness."

This foundational deficit in reading affects about 20% of the population. It hinders reading mastery and must be explicitly and carefully taught to these children.   The other 80% tend to naturally acquire these skills when provided a typical enriching environment prior to first grade.
